Lab 1: Phase Changes Lab-Group 3
In this lab, we put a piece of ice inside of a beaker. We then hooked up a thermometer, and put the beaker with ice in it, on top of a hotplate with the setting see to level 5. We recorded the temperature of the water/ice inside of the beaker with the thermometer every 15 seconds. This lab was done when we were covering the chapter of phase changes, and the different states of water. From this lab, we learned more about what happens during each phase change that water undergoes.
Lab 2: Airbag Activity
In this activity, we had to create an airbag, while using baking soda, vinegar, and a zip-top sandwich bag. The main goal or purpose of this lab was to use our knowledge of equations and stoichiometry in order to figure out how many grams of baking soda was needed in order to create a sufficient airbag. This lab was used to make us use our math skills of stoichiometry which was what the chapter we were covering was about. The result that came of this lab was that our air bag was under-inflation and our use of math with stoichiometry was slightly off.
